It is with sadness that I report the passing of Donald C. Farber, Esq. on July 29 from a long battle with cancer. He was 92 years old.

Don Farber was a theatrical legend as a show business attorney. He was the inspiration for many producers with his books Producing Theater, Producing on Broadway, From Option to Opening and a recent memoir I Hated to Do It.  Together with Robert Viagas, he penned The Amazing Story of the Fantasticks, the long running musical for which he was legal counsel from its opening in 1960.

He represented the works and estate of Kurt Vonnegut and had been attorney for the Stratford Festival in Canada.

He is survived by his loving wife Ann and children Patty and Seth and a wonderful family including grandchildren Justin and Miranda.

On June 21 he was duly honored at Sardi’s where his caricature was unveiled and hung on its prestigious walls and at which I had the pleasure of being present and creating this video. I knew Don for many years prior.

Rest in peace!
