It was an extraordinary day meeting the cast and creatives, only two weeks into rehearsals, on this 50th Anniversary celebrating the original Fiddler’s ‘Best Musical’ Tony Award. The still amazing Sheldon Harnick, who wrote the lyrics, together with Jerry Bock (music) with a book by Joseph Stein, is 91 years young, and has three shows in revival . . . Fiddler being one, Rothschilds & Sons, in production at the York Theater, another, and next year looking forward to “She Loves Me.” Now isn’t that something!  And Mr. Harnick is now working on an opera. No need to ask what keeps him so young and vital.

Tony Award winning director Bartlett Sher (The King and I) will helm this revival and the perfect choice for Tevye, Danny Burstein, will head up this talented group of merrymakers.

TheaterPizzazz’ Sandi Durell was on the pulse of this meet and greet, along with Magda Katz on camera, and we learned a lot talking with Harnick, Sher and Burstein, and with Jessica Hecht as Golde, Adam Dannheisser as Lazar Wolf, Adam Kantor as Motel, Alix Korey (great having her back in NY after 10 years living on the West Coast) as Yente, Alexandra Silber as Tzeitel, Melanie Moore as Chava, Samantha Massell as Hodel, Nick Rehberger as Fyedka, the Russian, Ben Rappaport as Perchik, and treated to this company of unending talents, and several of the great Fiddler tunes led by music director Ted Sperling.  Hofesh Schecter will be choreographing. Scenic design is by Michael Yeargan, with costumes by Catherine Zuber and lighting by Donald Holder. It’s an all-star team!
