Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie (Buyer and Cellar, “Ugly Betty”) will serve as host of the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 8:00 PM at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street), it was announced today by Charles Wright, Drama Desk President, and Gretchen Shugart, CEO of TheaterMania.com.
“We are thrilled to welcome Michael Urie as this year’s Drama Desk Awards host. His charm, wit and warmth will make for a very special and lively evening as we celebrate excellence in New York theater,” said Shugart.
Michael Urie said, “I can’t wait to host the Drama Desk Awards show. This year, to add more excitement, we’re calling it Drama Desk: LIVE!”
For the fifth consecutive year, TheaterMania will present theawards ceremony and Joey Parnes Productions willproduce and manage the show. Shugart is the Managing ExecutiveProducer of the Drama Desk Awards. The Awards show will be written by Bill Rosenfield and directed by Jack Cummings III (co-founder and artistic director of Transport Group).
Tickets to the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards will go on sale to the general public on March 28th at www.DramaDeskAwards.com.
The Drama Desk Awards nominations announcement will take place on Thursday, April 28th at Feinstein’s/54 Below at 10:00 am and will be streamed live on www.TheaterMania.com.
