Make a Special Trip to Timna, East Village, NYC
On the advice of a friend’s friend, who raved about a meal at Timna in the East Village, off we went to that part of town for what was a surprisingly good meal. There’s little choice at Timna. One-price gets you all the mezze, served family-style tapas, and a choice of entree ($53) or two half-sizes entrees plus dessert ($73). Add wine pairings for $30. We decided each ordering one entree and ordering our own wine. (read more) https://www.biteofthebest.com/make-a-special-trip-to-timna-east-village-nyc/Timna

SummerDine at Le Coq Rico, Flatiron, NYC
My previous visit to Le Coq Rico was for brunch about two years ago soon after they opened. At that time, I had written that they needed to find their rhythm or they wouldn’t last. We began with Crémant — and ended with a dessert wine — Coteaux du Layon, Le Clos de la Bergerie, 2016 with a wonderful Alsatian Riesling in between. Our dinner included small portions of items from their amazing menu, although the prices listed here are for regular-sized ones. We started with a refreshing chilled minted green pea soup with a chevrè quenelle ($14), a deviled octopus and cabbage salad seasoned with cumin ($14), leeks vinaigrette in a Hollandaise sauce ($16) and a duck foie gras terrine en croûte ($32). Estiatorio Milos, Midtown, NYC
Returning to Estiatorio Milos during restaurant week, I dined with a couple of friends enjoying their fabulous bargain of a 3-course lunch for only $26. A server stopped by our table, poured some EVOO and then snipped fresh oregano into the oil for us to use with the chewy-crust bread while we perused the menu. . .tender grilled Icelandic arctic char with white beans; one had a tuna burger topped with daikon radish salad and lightly fried zucchini sticks; while the only disappointment was the Askakomakaranada of deep-sea Bay of Fundy lobster over pasta. The Recently Opened Bluebird London, Columbus Circle, NYC Offers Free “Fizz”
D&D, the British restaurant group, crossed the pond recently with it’s popular London restaurant. Bluebird London is in the Time Warner Center. We shared the very mild monkfish & shrimp curry ($32) with tomato fenugreek with bowls of basmati rice and yummy mango chutney ($32) along with paratha, an Indian bread, and the wild mushrooms; and the fregola ($21) large (a large round pasta from Sardinia, similar to Israeli couscous) with butternut squash, broccoli rabe, grilled scallions. We ordered a side of creamed spinach ($7) that was one of our menu favorites. It was fresh spinach floating in cream.
