Monday evening, November 21 saw the Broadway Dreams’ annual “Night of Dreams” Gala which celebrated Tony Award®-winning lyricist and composer Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty for their myriad of accomplishments in the American Musical Theatre with the inaugural Arts Advancement Award. Directed by Stafford Arima, the evening included cocktails, dinner, and tribute performances honoring the recipients of the 2016 Ahrens and Flaherty. Christy Altomare and Derek Klena performed “In a Crowd of Thousands” from the much-anticipated new musical, Anastasia, set to open on Broadway on April 24, 2017. Broadway stars and Broadway Dreams teaching artists Quentin Earl Darrington and recording artist Morgan James also performed. A costume exhibit was displayed for the evening, featuring pieces from Ahrens and Flaherty’s past and upcoming Broadway productions, including designs by Tony Award®-winning costume designer William Ivey Long (Little Dancer). Theater Pizzazz’s JK Clarke was on hand to capture red carpet arrivals.
