IATI Theater (Winston Estevez, Artistic Director) culminates the 22nd Cimientos Play Development Program with its Staged Readings Series presenting new works by ten national and cross-continental playwrights selected to participate in a year-long incubator. The five-day festival will occur in the evenings between Wednesday, June 8, and Sunday, June 12. Performances are at the IATI Theater (64 East 4th Street, between Bowery and 2nd Avenue NYC). Every year IATI Theater selects ten plays in early development to participate in the Cimientos Play Development Program, offering playwrights the space and resources to collaborate, challenge convention, and hone their craft under the tutelage and support of IATI’s artistic team. For our 2022 season, over 400 playwrights from 35 different countries submitted to be a part of Cimientos.
Our Staged Readings Series will showcase ten plays, both in English and Spanish, that originated in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Kenya, Mexico, Spain, and the United States, featuring over 50 actors and ten directors. Each reading will be followed by a panel and talkback with the playwright, director, actors, and guests.
