A reception, celebrating the exhibit which is the first major retospective of Al Hirschfeld, was held on May 20th. The exhibit will run from May 22nd until October 12th at the New York Historical Society. It will feature over 100 original drawings and renderings of drawings plus other memorbilia showing his work in the Times and other magazines,

One could not wait to open the Sunday New York Times to find these drawings on the first page. It showed Hirschfeld’s early work for the Hollywood Studios on posters and classic portraits of Charle Chaplin, Carol Channing, Ella Fitzgerald to name a few. This exhibit must be seen to appreciate the volume of his work in all fields.

Some celebrites were among the guests, a few posing with their portraits. Tony Walton used to sketch for the early Playbills and Ken Fallin, who does many show sketches now, were among the guests.
