Andrea Wolff brought her new show “Prisoner of Love” to Don’t Tell Mama this past Saturday night. She opened with the haunting Kander and Ebb’s “Colored Lights” and took the audience on her romantic journey through well chosen songs. Other well selected additions included: “Guess Who I saw Today” (Murray Grand and Elise Boyd), “Could I Leave You” (Stephen Sondheim) and Comden and Green’s explosive “If.”
It was a bitter sweet evening for Andrea because her musical director and co-creator Barry Levitt suddenly passed away a week before. Stepping in last minute for the late Mr. Levitt was the talented Musical Director and Pianist Matthew Martin Ward. Backing Andrea on Bass was Boots Maleson, violinist Rob Thomas , percussionist Howie Gordon. The title song “Prisoner of Love” was written especially for Andrea by the late Barry Levitt and her director Peter Napolitano. Andrea brought the audience to it’s feet as she closed her show with Bruno Canfora’s “This is My Life.”
