Drama Critic for the Wall Street Journal since 2003 and Playwright (Satchmo at the Waldorf) Terry Teachout died in his sleep on January 13, 2022 at the age of 65 at a friend’s home in Smithtown, NY. He was well respected by so many in and beyond the industry.

Teachout wrote biographies on Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, George Balanchine and H.L. Mencken and also wrote plays and librettos. He was a jazz musician and also wrote a popular blog About Last Night.

He had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2005.
