On January 16, 2024, @ 6:30 to 9:30 pm, the South Florida Cabaret Singers Community will be holding their First Anniversary Open Mic Night at Café Centro, hosted by co-founders Meri Ziev and David Meulemans, with the extraordinary Bobby Peaco at the piano. Last January, the first official event of this Florida Cabaret or ‘FLOC of Songbirds’ community was a resounding success with a sold-out Open Mic Night at Café Centro in West Palm Beach, FL.  Performers from all over south Florida impressed and delighted each other, as well as family and friends in attendance.

Membership has grown from 6 people in the first brainstorming session arranged by David Meulemans, to 74 singers and a group of 53 “Friends, Fans & Fam” as of this moment! Make reservations by calling Café Centro at 561-514-4070, or contact Meri Ziev (email below).

Performances and lives were enriched by masterful, insightful instructors in three unique Master Classes led by: Jeff Harnar (NYC), accompanied by Phil Hinton, Ari Axelrod (NYC) accompanied by Mike Stapleton, and Anthony Nunziata (Nashville, TN), accompanied by “Dr. G” Gianni Bianchini.  These gifted performers, educators and musicians lifted us to new levels!

The process of applying for Not-for-Profit status has begun as excitement to become an “official” organization rises. The organization continues to schedule meetings with local venues to create performance opportunities for their members.  Salon nights will commence soon as well.

More master classes are coming!  The first “Cabaret-Jazz” master class is scheduled for 1/10/24 with the sensational Stephanie Nakasian at the helm.  Always wanted to sing at a jazz jam but felt intimidated?  Want to dip your toe into jazz stylings?  Want to hone the skills you already have?  This is the class for YOU!  Auditors are welcome as well as singers.  Contact zievfl@gmail.com for details.
