Drama Desk Awards ceremony was presented at Sardi’s June 6th, hosted by husband and wife duo Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody. Presenters included Jason Robert BrownEllen BurstynJordan E. CooperTovah FeldshuhMyles FrostLin-Manuel MirandaPaolo Montalban, and Shaina Taub, and commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment to present a citation. Many winners remarked on the beauty of the award statue, with “Some Like It Hot” winner Kevin Del Aguila saying, “Can I just say what we’re all thinking? This is the most beautiful award of the bunch,” and Sean Hayes adding, “I love this ink well and feather pen, it really is beautiful. Is It wrong that I was hoping for a life-size desk to go with it?” Following the awards, winners and attendees kept the celebration going at a post-ceremony. As part of her ongoing celebration of 50 years on Broadway, current Funny Girl star Tovah Feldshuh has partnered with the Entertainment Community Fund to create The Feldshuh Fund for Women’s Health. The fund will provide women in the entertainment community with services for early detection of ovarian and other reproductive cancers.

Jeremy Jordan will return to Little Shop of Horrors in the role of Seymour for 8 weeks only July 25 thru Sept. 17. Matt Doyle departs playing his final performance on July 16.

Fivetime Emmy winner and Grammy Award nominee Wayne Brady (HamiltonWhose Line Is it Anyway?) and Alan Mingo Jr. (Kinky BootsDoom Patrol)will lead the production as the Wiz in the all-new production of the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning hit musical The Wiz. with book by William F. Brown and directed by Schele Williams and choreography by JaQuel Knight. Brady will star as the Wiz on Broadway in Spring of 2024, San Francisco (January 16 – February 11, 2024) at the Golden Gate Theatre, and Los Angeles (February 13 – March 3, 2024) at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Mingo Jr. will star in the role of the Wiz in multi cities throughout the U.S. The cast will also include previously announced Kyle Ramar Freeman (A Strange Loop) as the Lion, Phillip Johnson Richardson (Sharper, Apple+) as the Tinman, and Avery Wilson (The Voice) as the Scarecrow, respectively. Richardson and Wilson will be making their Broadway debuts. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
