As Covid rears its head on and off Broadway, the following delays have been announced: A Strange Loop will now begin its first performance on Tues. April 12. Macbeth will resume performances Tues. April 12. Paradise Square, after cancelling 4 performances due to Covid will resume on April 12. Plaza Suite is awaiting a new date to resume performances and has extended its run by 5 days now ending July 1. LCT3’s At the Wedding is cancelled thru April 17 due to Covid. Beetlejuice is back on Broadway with a new Lydia, Elizabeth Teeter.
Play On Shakespeare, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to exploring the world of Shakespeare in performance through translation and adaptation, announced their spring/summer 2022 season. Lue Douthit, President and Co-Founder says: “Well, the theater world is definitely opening up. We literally mean ‘world’ (Prague, Guam, England) and suddenly there are ten professional productions of Play On translations opening in the next few months, including two in San Francisco (African-American Shakespeare Company and Cal Shakes). Tom Stoppard’s “Leopoldstadt” to Broadway next season. The production, directed by Patrick Marber, ran in the West End in fall 2021, after its earlier run was postponed by the pandemic. … The production is holding Broadway auditions this month.
Moulin Rouge! welcomes Ashley Loren, Derek Klena, Declan Bennett and Caleb Marshall-Villarreal who will step into lead roles in the Broadway company of when the production’s current principals depart next month. The performers will play their first performance in the new roles on May 10. Loren will assume the role of Satine full-time after having been the Satine alternate.
