What makes the Outer Critics Circle Awards so unique and loved? I’ll tell you. It’s that the winners have already been announced and they just show up, relaxed and ready to hear their name called by one of the presenters – in this case – Jenn Colella or Martha Plimpton or Christine Ebersole or Jim Dale – make their way to the podium (while Michael Lavine, on piano, plays them on and off with precise timing and music) and accept their award, many with some really amusing stories and thank you’s. No nail biting or perspiring – just a delicious luncheon at Sardi’s to go with a lovely honor in a friendly atmosphere that took place on Thursday May 24. But first, as the winners arrive, the members, nominators and guests attending have an opportunity to meet, greet and chat with their favorites in the 27 categories for which they have been chosen as winners. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon with theater’s best of the best and have a chat with Glenda Jackson, Ethan Slater, Nathan Lane, Andrew Garfield, Laurie Metcalf, Bart Sher, Lauren Ambrose, Norbert Leo Butz and so many more.
What makes the Outer Critics Circle even more exciting is that both Broadway and off-Broadway are up for consideration in all the categories!
