Feinsteins/54 Below was the place to be for animal lovers on Sunday evening October 24, as Dorothy & Bill Berloni presented “Best in Shows” where many Broadway legends honored The Humane Society of New York and especially Tom Viola (Executive Director Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS – BC/EFA) the recipient of the second annual Society’s Sandy Award. Some extravagant donations were made during the event- much needed to keep the shelter in top condition for our little four legged friends.
The evening was in full swing with Seth Rudetsky as host/musical director as favorite celeb, Tony winning actress and animal rights champion Bernadette Peters presented the Award to Tom Viola. Special guests included some very adorable dogs who are now up for adoption at the Humane Society’s New York shelter on East 59th Street, along with some of Broadway’s favorites who sang their hearts out including Farah Alvin, Zak Resnick, Liam Forde, Orfeh, Shanice Williams, Capathia Jenkins, Eden Espinosa, Margo Seibert, Lilla Crawford, Gabriella Pizzola along with composer Charles Strouse who regaled with some humorous gossip and played and sang some of his most famous songs. The evening was a treat to the eyes and ears and Bill Berloni a gracious host and presenter as always.
This is truly one of my favorite benefit events of the year. . . animal lover that I am! Don’t forget, the shelter needs food, blankets, towels – – all essentials.
