The show, featuring music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, with book by Guy Bolton and Fred Thompson, will star Tommy Tune, Colin Donnell, Danny Gardner, Jeff Hiller, Erin Mackey, Patti Murin, Richard Poe, Douglas Sills, Jennifer Laura Thompson, and Kirsten Wyatt. It will be directed by Mark Brokaw, with choreography by Randy Skinner and musical direction Rob Fisher.
This 1924 confection, the oldest show ever done by Encores in its 22-season history, was originally conceived as a vehicle for Fred and Adele Astaire. The plot concerns a poor brother and sister who crash a fancy party hoping to hook rich spouses, but find true love instead. The show’s songs include the famous title tune and “Fascinating Rhythm,” as well as many lesser-known Gershwin gems.
At a recent press event, Theater Pizzazz spoke with the cast, Fisher, and Encores artistic director Jack Viertel, and got a look at two of the show’s exciting numbers. Look and listen!
