Brooklyn is about to welcome a new theater company in Flatbush, The Call Theatre, born out of the pandemic with a mission to expose the disparities in the neighborhood. Its creative director and founder is Karen Cecilia. It is through art that ways of engaging the community can be found in the process of making theater.

The first project, a developmental reading entitled Green Mist, is a new play by Anel Carmona, and directed by Shellen Lubin, seeking to accomplish the defined goals.

Green Mist is an immersive experience that will include collecting perishable food items to be used as props and then donate them to the Flatbush Friendly Fridge (the community fridge) in efforts to support art accessibility and independent theatre while creating stories that are relevant to our current times making audiences aware of local businesses and artists in Brooklyn and helping to employ members of Actors Equity.

How will you answer the call asks this new independent theater company? You can find out more by attending FREE at Fionas Bar on Sunday June 13 at noon or Monday June 14 at 6 pm. Fionas Bar is located at 562 Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn.
