The Music Man opened to great fanfare last night with a 45-piece NYC high school marching band starting off the festivities. Producer Kate Horton welcomed the overflowing crowd and introduced the Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education David C. Banks. Mr. Banks spoke about the importance of music in the schools and said that honored teachers from every borough were invited to the opening. Dr. Carla Hayden from the Library of Congress was also an honored guest at the show.

The star-studded red carpet was filled with politicians, fashion designers, and stars of stage and screen. Among the dignitaries, there was New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and current and former NYC mayors Eric Adams and Michael Bloomberg. Paul Tazewell, who designed the costumes for the recent West Side Story movie, was joined by fellow fashion designers Donna Karan, Michael Kors, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Ann Hathaway, Haley Swindal, and Blake Lively looked stunning as they walked the carpet. EGOT Andrew Lloyd Webber was joined by his beautiful daughter Imogen. Other Broadway legends and stars of the television, film, and music included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Donna Murphy, Ryan Reynolds, Cynthia Nixon, Mariska Hargitay, Andy Cohen, Seth Meyers, Keenan Scott II, Randy Rainbow, Will Swenson, and others.

Tony Award winners Jerry Zaks (Music Man Director) and Warren Carlyle (Music Man Choreographer) also walked the red carpet prior to the show, along with Producer Kate Horton. Hugh Jackman’s wife Deborra-Lee Furness looked fabulous in black-and-white and had fun greeting guests in the red carpet tent.

After the show, the cast came out to pose for the cameras. Stars Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were joined by their fellow actors, which included 21 people making their Broadway debuts. The Music Man is currently running at the Winter Garden Theatre.
