Rattlestick Playwrights Theater announces its March programming including new episodes of MTA Radio Plays. The activities highlight new and necessary theatrical voices while also deepening connections between audiences and artists in new and meaningful ways. MTA Radio Plays, a series of audio dramas created to honor and celebrate the people that keep New York City running, launched on December 14, 2020, to critical acclaim.  Conceived and curated by playwright Ren Dara Santiago (The Siblings Play), Episodes 7–9 will debut on March 17 and feature the work of writers Victor Cervantes jr.Xavier Galva, and Robert Lee Leng along with directors Obi Abili and TJ Weaver. The Milwaukee Repertory Theatre plans to reopen for indoor performances on April 27. The first show in the Quadracci Powerhouse Theater will be “Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song,” starring the Chicago actor Alexis J Roston. This is a solo cabaret style show. Broadway Themed Cruises set to sail in 2022 with Seth Rudetsky’s Big Fat Broadway Vacations featuring four cruises. ‘Spirited Away’: Hayao Miyazaki’s Classic Animated Oscar Winner To Be Adapted For The Stage. The 2001 Oscar winning animated film will have its world premiere in Tokyo in 2022. This is the first-ever stage adaptation of the movie and will be written and directed by Tony and Olivier winner John Caird. Japanese giant Toho is behind the project.

The ever-popular Meryl Streep is set to star in Places, Please, a film drama that will be directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Michael Cristofer from a script by UCLA MFA alum Elisabeth Seldes Annacone (The Changing Room). The film is a love letter to Broadway, where both Streep and Cristofer started their careers. It’s set to shoot this summer in New York.
