Featuring a book and score by Melvin Van Peebles, Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death is set to return to Broadway in 2022, directed by Kenny Leon. Blending early hip hop and spoken word, jazz and blues, humor and pain, it offers a raucous celebration of – and clear-eyed look at – America.

On October 20, 1971, Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death had its legendary opening night and perfectly captured the Van Peebles zeitgeist as it stunned its first Broadway audiences with its heightened, no-holds-barred depiction – equal parts thrilling and intense – of the largely unseen corridors of urban life.  Broadway – and popular music – would never be the same.  More details will be forthcoming.

The Devil Wears Prada musical now has Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only) part of the writing team. She will co-write the book with Paul Rudnick. The creative team includes Elton John, lyricist Shaina Taub and director Anna D. Shapiro. Look to July 2022 when the musical is scheduled to have its world premiere in Chicago, produced by Kevin McCollum and Rocket Entertainment.

Broadway on the High Seas Mediterranean Silversea’s Cruise will feature Audra McDonald, Will Swenson and Christopher Fitzgerald as the Silver Dawn sails from Rome to Barcelona Sept. 7-14, 2022.

The Lion King will resume West End performances this summer at the Lyceum Theatre on July 29 where it’s been the last 21 years.

Fun Home will premiere in Sydney, Australia in 2021 with Marina Prior and Maggie McKenna.
