New York Theatre Barn will host a free live stream of its award-winning New Works Series on Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 at 7PM EST, featuring excerpts from the new musicals Little Miss Perfect and House Rules. The live 1-hour presentation will also feature a conversation with the writers and creative team. The new musical Little Miss Perfect has music and lyrics by Joriah Kwamé (winner of the 2019 “Write Out Loud” Song Competition) and book by America’s most produced playwright Lauren Gunderson (I And You, Jeannette). It features performances by Savannah Fisher and co-writer Joriah Kwamé.

Broadway stars on a mission to raise funds and awareness for pulmonary fibrosis (PF) will take the stage virtually for the first time in the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation’s (PFF) 11th annual Broadway Belts for PFF! on Friday, March 12, at 7 p.m. ET. The free event will be live-streamed on the PFF’s YouTube and Facebook channels. Award-winning Broadway actress and comedienne Julie Halston (Broadway’s Tootsie, Gypsy, You Can’t Take It With You, TV’s Sex and the City), will host the evening on her popular YouTube series, Virtual Halston along with co-host, Jim Caruso (Jim Caruso’s Cast Party). Broadway On Demand continues to stream the La Jolla Playhouse digital Without Walls(WOW) series, featuring Alyce Smith Cooper and Shammy Dee’s Spittin’ Truth to Power While Light Leaping for the People,and is now calling for submissions to their Sermon Challenge.

Audiences and artists alike are invited to – using Shammy’s music and Alyce’s words – spit their own truth and join the project by creating their own version of the “Sermon” video using dance, spoken word, a paintbrush or whatever kind of interpretation they choose.  Polydor Records/UMe has announced the release of the third piece of music from the forthcoming album of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella. “I Know I Have A Heart” sung by Carrie Hope Fletcher and is released across all DSPs. Expect a vivid retelling of the classic East meets West by Paramount Pictures of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I, who have now acquired the rights. Marty Bowen & Wyck Godfrey’s Temple Hill will produce. Concord, who acquired the Rodgers & Hammerstein catalogue in 2017, will also serve in a producing capacity.

The first film made from the stage musical was directed by Walter Lang and starred Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr. The 1956 Fox film won five Oscars out of nine nominations, including a Best Actor win for Brynner. In the classic story, Anna Leonowens sets sail from England for Bangkok, Siam (now Thailand) to take the position of schoolteacher for the royal court of the King of Siam. (via Deadline)
