Producers Barry Diller, David Geffen and Kate Horton announced that Broadway’s biggest hit which helped usher the theater industry back from its 18-month shutdown, will end its record shattering run on January 1, 2023. The smash-hit revival of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, starring two-time Tony Award®, Grammy Award®, and Emmy Award®-winning star Hugh Jackman as Professor Harold Hill and two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as Marian Paroo, will have played 358 regular and 46 preview performances by the time it takes its final bow. Tickets for The Music Man’s final stretch of performances through January 1, 2023 will be available Wednesday, September 14 at 9am ET. Ars Nova, “a company known for pop-culture-savvy experimentation, with a hipness that sets it apart” (New York Times), and PlayCo, New York’s home for adventurous international theater, are pleased to announce details for the world premiere of HOUND DOG by 2019 Ars Nova resident artist Melis Aker. Directed by Machel Ross with music by Aker and the Lazours, this cross-cultural jam-session-meets-play explores the winding path towards forgiveness and belonging. HOUND DOG, which kicks off Ars Nova’s 20th anniversary season, runs October 6–November 5, 2022, at Ars Nova @ Greenwich House (27 Barrow Street, Manhattan) with a press opening on October 24. Vineyard Theatre and Second Stage Theater have announced that Michael R. Jackson’s new musical, WHITE GIRL IN DANGER, will have its World Premiere in March 2023 in a co-production between the two theater companies. WHITE GIRL IN DANGER will begin previews on March 15, 2023 and will officially open on April 10, 2023 at Second Stage’s Off-Broadway home, the Tony Kiser Theater (305 West 43rd Street). The limited 8-week run will play through Sunday, May 21, 2023. WHITE GIRL IN DANGER will be directed by Tony Award nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of Our Teeth)and choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly (A Strange Loop, 2ST’s We’re Gonna Die).
BEDLAM’s 10th Anniversary Season shows in repertory. William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale and Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, adapted by Jon Robin Baitz are playing this fall at the Irondale Center – 85 S Oxford St, Brooklyn.
The Winter’s Tale, opening on October 16, is directed by Eric Tucker and assistant directed by Talia Feldberg. Hedda Gabler, opening on October 17,is directed by Eric Tucker and assistant directed by Aïssa Guindo. The repertory cast includes Karen Alvarado, Lisa Birnbaum, Katie Hartke, Mike Labbadia, Susannah Millonzi, Ryan Quinn, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Eric Tucker, and Elan Zafir. The productions are stage managed by Diane Healy and assistant stage managed by Deanna Kahn. BEDLAM is led by Artistic Director Eric Tucker and new Managing Director Thomas Kapusta.
