Days of Wine and Roses, EST’s First Light Festival (Free) – Medea: Re-Versed, Vineyard – This Land Was Made, Triad Theater – Magic Box the Musical


Ensemble Studio Theatre (Estefanía Fadul and Graeme Gillis, Co-Artistic Directors) and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice President and Program Director) are pleased to announce the lineup for the 2023 First Light Festival, part of the EST/Sloan Project to develop plays exploring science and technology.  

The 2023 First Light Festival will run from May 7 – June 23 and includes six public readings; two closed readings for internal development; one satellite event; and a Youngblood Brunch, in conjunction with the festival, which will feature five short plays by members of EST’s early career playwrights collective. The Satellite Reading of The Kit: Made by Martha will be at Alchemical Studios (50 W 17th Street, 12th floor).  All First Light Festival presentations are free and will be held at Ensemble Studio Theatre (545 W. 52nd St., 2nd Floor), except for the Satellite Reading. This Land Was Made written by Tori Sampson (New York Times Critic’s Pick If Pretty Hurts, Ugly Must Be A Muhfucka) and directed by LPTW Lucille Lortel Award and 2023 Obie Award winner Taylor Reynolds (Tambo & Bones). Previews begin on May 18 at Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street). Opening night for This Land Was Made, the third and final production of the Vineyard’s 40th season, is set for Sunday, June 4 at 5pm. www.VineyardTheatre.org

Days of Wine and Roses began performances on Friday, May 5th and will open on Monday, June 5th for a limited engagement, now extended through Sunday, July 9th Off-Broadway at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street), starring Kelli O’Hara, Brian d’Arcy James, Steven Booth, Sharon Catherine Brown, Bill English, Nicole Ferguson, Olivia Hernandez, Bryon Jennings David Jennings, Ted Koch, Ella Dane Moran, Scarlett Under, Kelcey Watson. The new musical is adapted from JP Miller’s 1962 film and original 1958 teleplay, composer & lyricist Adam Guettel, playwright Craig Lucas, musical director Michael Greif.

RED BULL THEATER’s cast for the next offering of a new season of OBIE Award-winning Revelation Readings: Medea: Re-Versed by Luis Quintero, a rap adaptation of Euripedes’ Medea, conceived and directed by Red Bull’s Associate Artistic Director Nathan Winkelstein.
