SheNYCArts – Purlie Victorious Emerging Artists Theatre: Anne Being Frank/Doris Day/Sex Work, Sex Play


The producers of the upcoming Broadway revival of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patchby the legendary Ossie Davis starring Leslie Odom, Jr., are pleased to announce that Alan Alda, Nnamdi Asomugha, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson, Phylicia Rashad and Kerry Washington have joined the producing team of the upcoming American comedy. Previews begin this Thursday, September 7 ahead of opening on Wednesday, September 27 at The Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th St.).  Direction is by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (Topdog/Underdog, A Soldier’s Play, A Raisin in the Sun). The play marks Odom’s return to Broadway after winning the Tony for his iconic performance as “Aaron Burr” in Hamilton.  www.purlievictorious.com

The award-winning Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT), currently celebrating their 30th anniversary of producing new work in New York City, presents three new Off-Broadway plays which are slated to open next week. The two month engagement will feature the following plays running in repertory: Anne Being Frank by Ron ElishaDoris Day: My Secret Love by Paul Adams, and Sex Work Sex Play by Caytha Jentis. The World Premiere production will run September 4th to October 29th at the 28th Street Theatre (TADA) on a rotating schedule with each show receiving four performances a week. SheNYC Arts, an organization devoted to producing plays, musicals, and adaptations by writers of marginalized genders and who produces summer theater festivals of work by women/trans writers in NYC, LA, and Atlanta, has announced complete casting for the two plays running in rep, September 23 to October 14, by Festival alumni writers at A.R.T/NY Mezzanine Theatre(502 West 53 Street). Fort Huachuca will open on Thursday, September 28th and Bloodshot on Friday, September 29th.

The fall shows, running in rep (alternating performances), are FORT HUACHUCA by Ailema Sousa and directed by Ani Marderosian and BLOODSHOT by Elinor T Vanderburg and directed by Nigel Semaj. The two shows will transport audiences from the world of a WWII Army Base to a nightmarish, alternate-universe New York City.
