The gloves are off!  One of the most highly anticipated new shows of the season, Gerard Alessandrini’s FORBIDDEN BROADWAY COMES OUT SWINGING!  begins previews Monday, March 17th at the newly refurbished Davenport Theatre (354 West 45th Street – between 8th and 9th Avenue). The show is set to open on Sunday, May 4th.  This up-to-the-minute new edition will include Alessandrini’s takes on Kinky Boots, Matilda, Rocky, Cabaret, The Bridges of Madison County, Aladdin, Pippin, the turntable-less Les Miz, Motown, The Sound of Music Live! and Bullets Over Broadway, among others.

The show was on a 10-month hiatus and started performances with Forbidden Broadway: Alive and STILL Kicking on February 22nd of this year. Since that time, Alessandrini and company have been relentlessly readying the brand-new material, as fast as Broadway itself.

Gerard Alessandrini said, “We’re having a particularly fun time with this one, because the edition is being created as the season unfolds, and the show is changing nightly! We’re going to have our Opening Night just a few days after the Tony nominations are announced, so it’s a very exciting time to be putting this together.”

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY COMES OUT SWINGING! is created and written by Gerard Alessandrini, and directed by Phillip George and Mr. Alessandrini, with musical direction by David Caldwell, set by Megan K. Halpern, lighting by Mark T. Simpson, costumes by Dustin Cross and Philip Heckman, sound by Matt Kraus and wigs by Bobbie Cliffton Zlotnick.

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY has been an unstoppable force in theatre since 1982, when Gerard Alessandrini created the first edition that lampooned the Broadway shows and stars of the day who often stop by to laugh at themselves alongside the public. FORBIDDEN BROADWAY has won numerous awards in its history including a 2006 Tony® Honor, Drama Critics’ Circle, Obie, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, and Lucille Lortel Awards.
