School is out and if your kids haven’t gone off to camp, what’s a parent, grandparent or caretaker to do with those little ones?

Here are some ideas in and around the City. (check free stuff calendar at http://www.nycgo.com/free) free for families, kids, everybody! And don’t forget Macy’s Fireworks on July 4th on the West side of Manhattan.

Have you been to the Statue of Liberty lately?  It’s reopened.  How about all the free performances at Summerstage in Central Park? Give them a little culture as they listen to the NY Philharmonic on the Great Lawn at Central Park.  Kids can practice their baseball swings and watch a ball game at the MLB All-Star Fanfest at the Javits Center, see a sculpture show “The Lightness of Being” at City Hall Park, learn how to pogo at Pogopalooza – and these are just for starters!

Movies and shows abound – Despicable Me2, RiverFlicks for Kids is showing ParaNorman at Hudson River Park, Civil War history is a free summer show at Theatreworks USA, Cirque du Soleil’s Quidam is at Barclay’s Center, see Willy Wonka at SyFy Movies screening, The Smurfs2 are headed to theaters.

And if you and your little ones haven’t seen Broadway’s “The Lion King” “Cinderella” “Annie” “Mamma Mia!” “Matilda the Musical” “Spiderman:Turn Off the Dark” “Wicked” – try one or more!

Also: (Dance Theatre Workshop) Children’s Musical Theatre Festival: Flight of the Lawnchair Man/We Are Monsters; “Eek! A Mousical,” “The Gazillion Bubble Show,” “The Lion King, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Monday Night Magic,” “Piggy Nation the Musical,” “Pinocchio,” “Wanda’s Monster”
