Keen Company has announced production details for its upcoming revival of Crumbs From the Table of Joy, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Sweat,). Performances are set to run at Theatre Row February 21-April 1 with an official opening on March 7, Directed by Colette Robert, the cast features Shanel Bailey (The Book of Mormon), Jason Bowen (The Play That Goes Wrong), Sharina Martin (The Piano Lesson), Natalia Payne (Fairview), and Malika Samuel (Harry Potter . . .) .

A Wonderful World, A New Musical about the Life and Loves of Louis Armstrong is set to premiere in New Orleans and then Chicago this fall. The musical will play the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans from Oct. 1-8 before moving to the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago from Oct. 11-29. Producers shared their intent to then move the production to Broadway. “A Wonderful World” is conceived by Tony Award nominee Christopher Renshaw and novelist Andrew Delaplaine, and features an original book by Aurin Squire and music made popular by Armstrong. Real-life wife–and-husband team Annastasia Victory and Michael O. Mitchell provide original music, arrangements, orchestrations and music direction. Renshaw will direct and Rickey Tripp will choreograph. … The cast will be led by Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as Armstrong.

Jacob Stuckelman of Watermark Productions announced today that the World Premiere production of the new play I’M GONNA MARRY YOU TOBEY MAGUIRE, written by Samantha Hurley and directed by Tyler Struble, will play Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre (338 West 23rd Street) this July. The 1/52 Project, founded by Tony Award winning designer Beowulf Boritt, is announcing at 12:00 PM today that applications are now being accepted for early-career designer recipients to benefit from $100,000 in grants. Last year the entire design teams of HadestownHamilton, and Wicked all contributed. Already this year the entire design team of The Piano Lesson has contributed. Early donations for 2023 include Tony winners Julie Taymor, costume designer and director of The Lion King and Richard Hudson, set designer of The Lion KingNevin Steinberg, the sound designer of HamiltonTyler Miccoleau, lighting designer of The Band’s Visit; Emmy Award winner David Korins, set designer of Hamilton; and Drama Desk winner Tony Meola, sound designer of Wicked. Among the non-designer contributors is Director/Author James Lapine

The 1/52 Project launched in January 2022. It is primarily funded by designers with shows running on Broadway who are encouraged to donate one week every year of their weekly royalties to this fund, thus the 1/52 Project.  The project hopes to encourage early career designers from historically excluded groups with the aim of diversifying and strengthening the Broadway design community.
