TKTS in 1973

It’s been 50 years since the TKTS booth in Times Square, where so many of us have waited on line to get half-price tickets for that day’s Broadway shows, first appeared. A grand celebration takes place on Wednesday, June 28 in Father Duffy Square – Broadway between 46th and 47th Street, in front of the TKTS red steps, starting at 11 am.

The celebration, hosted by playwright/actor/TDF Wendy Wasserstein Project mentor Eric Ulloa, will feature a proclamation from the City of New York; special guests S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order, Chicago Med), Broadway Inspirational Voices; and a Broadway sing-along with actor/piano bar entertainer Franca Vercelloni, along with the original TKTS designers, prominent New York officials, and more.

There will also be TKTS gift certificate giveaways, TKTS trivia, a roaming photo booth, TKTS branded buttons and fans, as well as Smackery’s TKTS Fun-Fettie cookies.
